Homophobia and prejudice

Note: I am not a homophobe; I completely support the LGBT community, even though I am not a part of it myself. Homophobia breaks my heart.

This was inspired by a stamp that said "Prejudice is a two way street". It really got me thinking about homosexuality and homophobia.
Some people tend to hate homophobes just because they're homophobic. I don't think that's right. If you hate someone just because they're homophobic, you're just as prejudiced as the homophobe themselves; you're no better than them. Homophobia itself never hurts anyone. It's the actions some people take because of it that do.

For example, I don't hate all racist people. I think racism is stupid and unreasonable, BUT that's no reason to go around on your high horse and being rude to all racist people.

If you try to quote Bible verses at me, I will merely tell you to quit hiding behind the words of someone else.

Be mature in your comments, please. I realize this stamp is very controversial and that not everybody will agree with me. That's okay; I support expressing opinions in a calm and mature manner. Rude and immature comments will be hidden or ignored.

So, tl;dr. The short version of my nonsensical ranting: Don't hate homophobes because they're homophobes; hate the dickhead ones for being dickheads.

Edit: In a nutshell, I just find it really odd that many people preach "tolerance" towards the LGBT community, but.. often times, they can't even tolerate the people that don't agree. Obviously this doesn't apply to the violent ones.
